The July Syndrome

This is a page from my SiteMeter stats. Note the Visitor's Time and the Search Words.

I had always heard that you shouldn't go to the hospital in July because that is when the new doctors start. Being a non-medical type, my warped medblog addicted mind immediately figured this must be a new intern. It was his first day, he was asked to do something, and the patient wouldn't cooperate and refused to pull his pants down. Now, the new intern probably didn't want to be forever known as the doctor who couldn't get a patient to drop his pants, so he snuck off and Googled it.

I know, this would have been funnier and more appropriate if I had posted it on July 2nd. That's been the theme of my life lately--a day late and a dollar short. I could tell y'all that I was busy working, but the truth is, I couldn't figure out how the hell to get the SiteMeter page onto my blog. I am technically challenged.

But now I have a fancy new printer. I probably made it infinitely more complex than it should have been, but I managed to not only get the page to show up on my computer, I have added red circles!

So what if it is two months late? BFD. It's still funny.
Well, kinda funny.
Ok, so it's not funny anymore, but who cares? I put red circles on it and posted it on my damn blog.

No telling what y'all are gonna see on my blog in the future.

Just in case another intern has this same problem next year, is there anything you can do when the patient won't pull his pants down?

I can't answer that last question MBA, although I'm sure someone will be by who can.
I'm even sure that someone will give you a quicker way to load a photo of your sitemeter stats into a post than I could, although I have done it myself.
But I do thank you for the laugh and I don't doubt your conclusion one little bit.

Hmmmm, I think it was the patient conducting the search . . . The doctor/resident knows the patient will be change into a gown. So I guess the intern's question would be more like "if the patient won't change into a gown, what does the doctor do" or more likely, "when patient won't change into gown"

Actually, in England August was traditionally the Killing season. The problem with July over here is that the docs have been in post 6 months and are just a little bit tto confident, without being aware of their limits.
Although, with the Govt interfering in training now, pretty much any time of the year is open season now.
As for the pants thing... press on regardless. On the same(ish) subject, I always find it odd that its quite normal for a doc to see you either clothed, OR naked - but completely taboo for us to see you getting undressed.

Dr Shroom -I did that myself but it was just instinct.

My uro doc has been to my southern border visiting bajingoland more times than I can keep track of now.

I told the nurse I wanted to speak with him and she told me to get undressed and cover up. But I looked for something in my purse first so when he opened the door to come in I had just gotten my pants off but I quickly put my pants in front of me and said "almost" and he graciously backed out the door...said he'd be back.

Now I am more comfortable with him then anyone other doc, but it was a reflexive maneuver of sorts.

Don't they usually knock before entering the exam room?

SeaSpray said...

He did -but I didn't say anything until he opened the door. Even when I am ready, they knock and I don't say anything and they come in - in any office I go to.

It wasn't a big deal at all. Just interesting what Dr Shroom said because apparently, with me it's ok to display bajingoland from a horizontal position, but God forbid I am vertical and they see some skin!

Conditioning I suppose, frequency and all that. It would be weird to be in the stirrups with my pants still on but stand me up and modesty prevails. ;)

Actually (maybe this is just me) but wouldn't it be funny if staff thought the woman was getting undressed and when they came in to their usual view..there she is still completely dressed...clothes, stockings and shoes but in stirrup position? ;) I Would love to see their expressions and the looks they shoot each other! :)

If the patient doesn't pull his pants down and it is necessary to examine properly and thoroughly the patient behind the pants, the issue is one of miscommunication between the doctor and patient. The doctor hasn't first fully explained the necessity in terms the patient can understand (so as to get "informed consent"). The patient hasn't first communicated with the doctor about the patient's own issues regarding modesty and if those who are interested want to come to my bioethics discussion thread on patient modesty will find many examples of the various issues within the hundreds of comments.
"What does the doctor do?" Take a little of the precious time and talk to the patient. ..Maurice.

Funny post. I agreed with the commenter about how it's odd that a doctor can see you undressed and clothed but not be there while you undress. I have a doctor that's great about retying the gown after untying it to examine me. I like that. A lot of docs will untie and leave you clutching at it while they move on. I'm not that modest but I think it's a nice touch for the doc to take the time to tie you back up. Ummmm, that came out wrong.

Cracks me up! Hey, thanks for the link to a new site meter. My old one was dropped or something and I needed a new one. And, as always, I love your blog!

Here's my weird thing... my PCP and I have a great relationship. I have no problem with him examining any part of me from any angle he needs. It wouldn't even bother me for him to come into the room while I was dressing or undressing. BUT. When I do undress and fold my clothes and lay them on the chair, I always tuck my bra and panties inside so they aren't visible. I swear there's nothing stranger than a human being...

Oh I do that too! :)

Someone found my blog by googling, "doctor take boxers off."

People google weird stuff.

I'm loving the word "bajingoland"; can I have it?

I agree, dr. shroom, "bajingoland" is a lot more fun to roll off the tongue than "hoo ha."

Was that Dr. October? ;o)

Dr Shroom -Bajingoland is yours!

Inspired by Dr Schroom, SeaSpray decided to create a brochure for visiting Bajingoland.

No mood altering drugs or sleep deprivation involved. SeaSpray states she has an aversion to white things that bind and so don't even think about it! ;)

SeaSpray may wake up with a HUGE case of bloggers remorse and no doubt if she were to rate her blog again the "G" rating would not apply. So...the post may be gone soon!

OMG I do that too!!!!

For some reason it's ok to examine me but don't look at my bra and panties!

"BUT. When I do undress and fold my clothes and lay them on the chair, I always tuck my bra and panties inside so they aren't visible."
